Mirjana Tomic

Mirjana Tomic manages press freedom activities in South East and Central Europe and contributes to projects, advocacy campaigns and press freedom missions. Her professional experience encompasses journalism, research, communication and teaching. She has lived in Serbia, US, Italy, Mexico, Guatemala, Spain and Austria. As correspondent for the Spanish daily El País, she covered the wars in former Yugoslavia, the fall of communist regimes in Romania and Albania, as well as political conflicts in Mexico and Central America. As a freelance journalist and commentator she collaborated with major European media: Il Messaggero, la Repubblica, Foreign Policy-Spanish Edition and International Herald Tribune, BBC-Latin American Service and Radio Svizzera di lingua italiana. In addition, she has been teaching at Italian and Spanish universities. Currently, she lectures at IE University in Madrid, Spain. Tomic holds a B.A in Political Science (Brandeis University, US) and a M.A. in Political Science (El Colegio de México, Mexico City, Mexico).
